What is considered proper attire for an executive construction interview?

As construction recruiters, we recommend you always dress one level up from what your construction interviewer will be wearing. If the construction interviewer is wearing a coat and tie, it would be fitting for you to wear a suit and tie. Generally speaking, darker colors such as black or blue are considered to be professional. Trendy clothes and loud ties or scarves are not always considered appropriate for construction interviewing, even if meeting on the weekend at a coffee shop. Proper dress shows respect for the construction employer letting them think they are important enough to dress up for. It shows that you understand the importance of first impressions, and that appearance does make a difference when meeting with them and their clients.

You can always dress down by removing your coat or jacket in the meeting if everyone else is without one, but never remove your tie.
