How many references should I give a prospective construction employer when asked to provide my references?
Construction employers are wise to conduct a vetting of any new hires prior to making an official job offer. Typically the job offer has been discussed and agreed upon by both parties, but the contingency is usually the employer having to conduct a background check, reference check and drug test before the offer is valid.
Employers usually seek at least 3 to 6 professional references from a job seeker. These references can be previous employers (past bosses, past subordinates or colleagues), or clients or vendors who have worked with the job seeker long enough to make a valid and trustworthy evaluation. Personal references are often not considered unless the hiring authority knows the reference personally.
